Clinical Evaluation of Netilmiein in the Surgical Field

Abstract
Clinical study of netilmicin was performed for prophylactic use and for therapeutic use in the surgical infection at the department of General Surgery, SNUH.
Of 41 prophylactic cases, in which netilmicin were used with another antibiotics 40 cases recovered from surgery without any postoperative surgical infection, so the efficacy of the netimicin was 97.6% in the prophylactic use.
Of another 10 prophylactic cases in which netilmicin only were used, there was no postoperative surgical infection.
Among 28 cases of various surgical infections, netilmicin had 20 cases of complete resolution, 5 cases of marked improvement, so its efficacy was 89.3%.
Especially netilmicin had the effect of complete response in the surgical infections which had not been responded previously by gentamicin, and tobramycin in the 7 and 2 cases respectively.
Toxicity of netilmicin, i.e. autotoxicity or nephrotoxicity, which might be enough to interfere the use of this aminoglycoside, was not developed in this study.
